Reading Levels

In grades K-5 your child has been assigned reading levels. One reading level indicates his or her "just-right" level, represented by letters A through Z. This levels reflects the type of text your child can read independently with fluency and comprehension. You will see this letter level indicated on your child's report card. The second level is the instructional level that your child's teacher will use for individualized reading instruction. This level will pose a challenge in either fluency, comprehension or both. Please see the descriptions of each level to help you understand the elements your child is working on when reading his or her current text.

Scholastic.com has a book wizard feature that will help you to identify a book level on the Fountas & Pinnell leveling system.
